Iranian detainees pardoned in Turkmenistan

TEHRAN, Dec. 14 (MNA) – Iran’s deputy foreign minister has said Turkmenistan president has pardoned 37 Iranians detained in the country.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consulate, Parliamentary and Expatriate Affairs Hassan Qashqavi told reporters on Sunday that the Foreign Ministry and Tehran’s embassy in Ashgabat has negotiated with Turkmen officials over the Iranian prisoners.

Qashqavi stated that marking Turkmenistan’s national occasion on December 11, 37 Iranian nationals who were imprisoned in the country were pardoned by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and would return Iran within next few days.

Last month, the two capitals had exchanged some prisoners. Qashqavi also stated that Iran and Turkmenistan are working to sign memorandum of understanding for exchange of prisoners.
